Assessing Your Climate for Innovation Intervention

The Situational Outlook Questionnaire   (SOQ) is used to understand the current reality of your working environment.  The SOQ measures the climate for creativity, innovation, and change using 53 questions that relate to 9 important dimensions: Challenge/Involvement, Freedom, Trust/Openness, Idea-Time, Playfulness/Humor, Conflict, Idea-Support, Debate and Risk-Taking.

The power behind the Situational Outlook Questionnaire

The dimensions the SOQ measures have been validated against measures of organizational innovation.  Research has shown the relationship between people’s perceptions of the organizational climate for creativity and the organization’s ability to:

  • implement successful and lasting change initiatives

  • improve overall business performance

  • enhance employee health and well-being

  • develop original products and services

The SOQ Answers the Following Questions

  • What is working, your current strengths?

  • What do we need to do differently/better?

  • What are opportunities for improvement and action?

Applications of the SOQ

You can use the SOQ to measure the climate across your organization, within your team or division, or to see how you as the leader are doing creating a climate that helps creativity and innovation thrive.

Implications for your Business

Gaining an understanding of your organization’s current state, with ideas and feedback from your employees, will provide you a roadmap to innovation for the future.  You can’t get to where you’re going without knowing where you’ve been.
